Plasma Spray Coatings in Delaware
Standard Technologies & Machine Co. provides plasma spray coatings from 3709 Old Capitol Trail in Wilmington, Delaware. Plasma spray adds a hard ceramic or metal layer to a part’s surface to fight wear and abrasion, resist heat and chemicals, rebuild worn areas, and replace chrome plating when the application allows.
Plasma spray can address wear and abrasion with chrome oxide, tungsten carbide, and similar hard coatings; heat and corrosion with nickel alloys, stainless steel, and aluminum; electrical or thermal conductivity with copper; and thermal barriers with zirconia or alumina.
Materials we can spray include chrome oxide, tungsten carbide, nickel alloys, alumina, copper, zirconia or zirconium oxide, stainless steel, and aluminum. The right material depends on the base material, service environment, surface problem, coating area, and required finish.
Typical plasma spray results include hardness to 72 Rc, coatings from .002″ to .150″ thick, bond strength to 15,000 psi, and a 150–500 Ra finish before grinding. Standard Technologies can grind or polish the coating to the final specification. Actual results depend on the component and application.
Standard Technologies uses a Metco SG-100 plasma gun. The process runs in four stages: clean and mask the part; use the plasma jet to melt and accelerate the coating powder; build the surface as the particles flatten and bond in layers; then grind or polish to the final size and finish when required.
To determine whether plasma spray is right for a part, send a photo or drawing, the base material, the area that needs coating, and what the part does in service. Standard Technologies will review the application and provide project pricing.
